The Mobil 1 filter is a premium filter made by Champion Labs and is pretty
much the same as the high-end STP and K&N filters (also made by Champion
Labs).
Funny coincidence... Champion Labs makes filters for VW too.
Cheers,
Jeff

Yes, the Mobil ! oil filter is a very good choice. High quality, heavy duty
construction and oil testing has shown it to be extremely sefective. Only
down side is price especially if you can't get a deal. It is a substantial
upgrade over the normal Mann or Mahle offerings.

I think it was Dennis Haynes, or someone else very reputable like him, who
said that the Mobil 1 oil filter is a very good filter.
So I wouldn't discard it out of hand.

I just bought 5 of the collapsible copper oil drain washers at my local VW
dealer for $0.70 each. These are for my 82 aircooled. The guy bad a bag
full of them. These might be 13mm as the part number on the invoice is:
N-013-849-2. It's for an aircooled 2.0l.
Here's the dealer if anyone wants the info:
Strong Volkswagen
1070 S. Main St.
Salt lake City, 84101
801 596-2200
I did have trouble finding a good synthetic 20w - 50 oil. Seems all my
FLAPS carry these days are the newer 5w-30s and 10w-40s. Almost had to
revert back to dino oil which several 20w - 50s were available.
I finally ended up getting Mobil 1 synthetic 15- 50 at Pep Boys who had a
"Special". I had to buy their Mobil 1 oil filter ($8.90, filter not used)
to get the cheap deal on the oil, down from $8.49 to 5.82 per quart if you
get the filter also. I tried to get the oil price without the filter for
same price and they keep the filter and re-sell it but the counter guy said
NO! can't do that. Silly marketing ploys................
So back on the road with fresh oil. Yeah!!!
Enjoy the weekend all,
Ken
