In truth, a mechanic did confirm the noise is from the pump. BUT -
Yesterday, I had two guys stand by my van - one at the rear, and one by
the left front wheel well - while I turned the wheel from stop to stop.
One by the pump, said it was the pump. The by the wheel said the noise
came from the front end behind the wheel. I had them swap places, and
listen again. They did not change their opinions. So what does that tell
you!?? Exactly! Nothing. After three pumps - the odds are against three
pumps in a row being bad. It's got to be elsewhere. So far as I know the
hoses and connections are stock. I'll check out the restrictor thing -
don't know about that. Next step is to blow the lines, then test, and if
that doesn't work, put in the other PS rack. I hate being a parts
replacer thoughtlessly chasing faults by replacing everything. That's
no way to maintain anything. But it appears to be boilng down to it. If
everything is replaced - how can anything have a fault, Right? Yeh, right!!
