Since you're asking this question maybe for you no. (Wise Guy) Using the correct flare tooling and fittings yes the line can be spliced. Single flares are not acceptable for brake work. You need a double flare or the VW style bubble flare tool. If you can flare and splice you can probably just replace that tube. Auto stores sell pieces already made up. Get 2 for the total length needed and a connector. A tube bender will help make nice pretty bends but if you are careful you can make the bends by hand. Just don't kink it.

My long brake line that goes front to back on the van ('85) blew out under the drivers compartment yesterday. I can see the leak (it was rusty there). Most of the line looks to be in good shape and I need to get only 6 more months out of this van before it is decomissioned; is there a reason why I can't cut the line to either side of the bad area (about a foot) and flare/install fittings as needed to install a 1foot patch?

Or do I have to replace the whole monstrous line?

What have people done?

Thanks!
