that is correct .. normally on that engine one would not be mounting it at 50 degrees ala Diesel Vanagon with DV parts. The pan is cast aluminum .. and while it's possible...those are not commonly modified to accommodate a 50 degree installation. The ALH and later engines are usually mounted more upright .. which means they stick through the engine cover area a few inches.

no kidding the electronics can be 'challenging', let's say. It's specialist work basically .. or invest the next half year of your life, at least, into learning and mastering all that e stuff.

is anyone doing mechanical pumps to replace the Pump Dusse set up ? Probably is my guess. Karl would know. Scott www.turbovans.com

I would suggest looking at Freds TDI swap forum for details, but I'm pretty sure that even just adapting the various mount points (oil pan too?) on the '05 engine, would be a major pain. The engine management electronics would be a huge obstacle too.

Someone else will chime in I'm sure, but a mechanical injector pump adaptation might be possible. Karl adapts the Bosch fuel injector pump for the older TDI engines:

check westyventures.com for details on which engine this part can be used.
