In that case Edward, 'cheat a little' and make the switch closing happen the tiniest bit earlier ( releasing throttle from half open back to closed ) . make sure you have some throttle cable slack, and adjust it so even if you release it slowly back to idle, it always makes contact.

if you make it 'too far' from zero throttle.. you can get bucking at low rpm , like say 1,200 and gentle throttle.

if it makes contact every time for sure, and you don't have bucking at very light throttle and low rpm, and it responds to the air idle screw on the throttle body, in a pretty linear manner.. and it's not at either extreme of fully closed or way, way open.. you're good. Make sure there is slack in the throttle cable too. And they need to be lubed, Virtually every vanagon in existence that hasn't had the front white tube in the body cleaned out , and throttle cable put back in with a nice spray lube as you insert it ..............needs it. That's about 90 % of vanagons in existence.
