Rode out a hurricane one time because we was on an island, and being tourists, and it being freakin' Kauai Hawaii, didn't have any choice in the matter. Eye wall went right over our heads.

Our 1st night shelter got completely tore up and we had to spent the next 4 nights sleeping in a rental car. And we were lucky- our ride had all its glass intact. (I chose my parking spot carefully)

Long story short- if it's recommended that you bug out, then do so. You may feel stupid heading home to nothing happened, but you'd feel a lot dumber if you find yourself treading water wondering where 911's at.
