Classic CV joint.knock. Time to change.

Unless he is not describing the symptom correctly, I've never heard a bad CV that made a single "thwunk" noise while loading it. My personal experience is that they always make a consistent clunking as the wheel/axle rotates. I HAVE had a broken spring on a van that whenever it was loaded, would shift, making a thunk noise, and apparently return to its resting position when I straightened out, then repeat the noise when turning, each time a single thunk, clunk, "thwunk", whatever you want to call it. I guess I'd also want to check to see that the lug nuts are secure. Have you checked to see if your engine mounts are healthy, showing no cracks? Bob
