Subject: New spin on parking light problem, '91 Westy GL
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

My parking light problem is more interesting than originally thought. I spent some time yesterday rewiring the "quick-splice" type blue connector joints by soldering them instead. Once I was sure that the connections were not weak there, testing my parking lights confirmed something else going on.

12volts test OK before bulb hooked up to socket. Zero volts show once bulb contact is made but interestingly enough, after approx 30 seconds later, a full 11.7 volts or so are produced and light illuminates. Leaving the parking lights on seems to keep the bulb lit and the voltage flowing. If there is any interruption such as a switch off then back on, there is another delay of approx 30 seconds before the light comes on and stays on!?!

Is this item below a relay? What function does this little plastic box do? I suspect now that my problem may be within this 20 year old unit but don't even know what it does!

Note: Bulb is right type and has been swapped with light on other side with same results. All other lights (signal, left-parking, both reverse, both brake, rear markers) working fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
