Just keep in mind that when it fails completely you will need to be towed and the repairs will be much more expensive if the box can even be rebuilt after the busted pieces make a mess of things. Not to butt in to this conversation, but....I also have a whining manual tranny on my '80 Camper. It started a few hundred miles ago (I think) and is most pronounced in first and second. It still whines in third, but a bit less and not noticeably in fourth. So I gather from the conversation that this is likely a bad input shaft (main) bearing. I also gather (hopefully) I can expect to get a few more thousands of miles before it fails completely. Is this a reasonable guess? I have a couple of spares trannies, but no "spare" cash at the moment for a rebuild. I'd like to put the repair off a couple of months.
