Measured my racks (home-built), I've got 8 1/4" height legs from the rain gutter to the bottom of the cross-bar, which gives me a comfortable 2 3/8" clearance between the top of the roof and the bottom of the cross-bar. This is at the roof's highest point, i.e., measured from one of the "waffle" structures to the bar. So that's 5 7/8" from high portion of roof to the bottom of the rain gutter trough.
