Yes, there are industrial versions of the 1.9TD as well as other VW diesel and gas engines. Many people have used an industrial 1.9TD in a Vanagon. There are issues with some industrial versions of the diesel injection pumps but the engines are about 95% the same as car versions. Engine code AAZ refers to a car version 1.9TD, specifically.
