I have had AAA rollback service for my van several times from my house to a shop. So it doesn't have to be a roadside emergency AAA also moved it from Roadside to my house.

Best bet is to call AAA and ask what the parameters are for a tow. Be direct - no skulking around the edges trying to sneak one in on them. That's asking for trouble you don't want or need.

I will say this. The tow is all about you - not the vehicle. Ask them about that. They have towed vehicles for me that I was driving, but didn't own - and had the misfortune of breaking down on the highway. But it may very well be that whatever vehicle you are in, to qualify for a tow it must be a registered vehicle.
