I know, I know, one can not mention WD-40 without someone saying that.

it's like a pavlovian reaction. whatever.... I have used it for mabye 40 years. I don't say it's a 'thick oily lube.. but it works beautifully for some things.

sometimes I'll use it to get something clean and working smoothly ( like a mechaism ) then follow it up with a more lubious lube.

tell you what.. I see SO MANY things on vanagons that have *never been lubed since the factory* .........dozens, scores of places ...little spots that move, slide, pivot etc.. and ANY lubrication ...........even with whatever, used engine oil with 10,000 miles on it would be One Thousand times better than the 'no lube' that so many spots on vanagon get.

even cooking oil would be better than the nothing the get.

and tell me, how can a shop install a brand new rebuilt waterboxer engine and not do basic simple lube items like a dab of grease on cable barrel clamp where it pivots in the throttle body lever ???

or even the return spring, where it's hooked in a hole in bare metal... I've never seen that spot lubed...........and those wear some. and about 200 other spots on vanagons .. and if they'd gotten WD-40 .........they sure would not be half worn through and rusty like so many spots on vanagons I see are ? most technicians are just parts replacers. there is very little fine tuning, careful adjusting, lubricating of whole systems in their various little parts. w

IF ONLY the poor things had gotten WD-40 in hundreds of spots on them ! I use a lot of penetrating spray lube too. lots of that. Many different brads of it. Like DeepCreep by Seafaom. To name one of many that I use. Even my parts vans get things lubed on them. Can't stand rust.

how can someone say they 'love their baby' .......and take their van to shops for work.. and it has the most horribly squeaky sliding door you ever heard...... poor thing just screaming for a few tiny shots of lube, WD-40 or otherwise.. and it takes all of 10 to 15 seconds to make the door about 96 % better working.. and yet no one ......all the adjults invovled in suppossidly loving or working on this van .. how is it that no one could spend 20 seconds and pennies in spray lube treating the poor door sliders ???

anwser me that Batman. I just don't get it. WD-40 would have been 2000 % better than nothing there ! Spit almost would have been better than what the poor thing never got ! I don't see that people see these most obvious, just crying out for attention, simple details. WD-40 or otherwise. *anything* would be so much better than nothing.
