It is not just VW. The newer the car the less room there is to do anything to it. Try changing spark plugs on a 99 Subaru Outback with DOHC 2.5 engine. I only work on cars for family and friends but plenty of times what I think should be a simple job turns out to be a nightmare, regardless of brand. When I hear people complain of the difficulty of doing a lot of Vanagon repairs I wonder what they are comparing it to. Older VWs?
