On my '84 with two flat mirrors I used ~3" square mirrors with one corner rounded off, placed in the lower outer corner of the mirror. That left a skinny slice of mirror on the inboard side to use for seeing the ground when backing down. I tried several placements and ended up with that.

The mirrors I'm talking about are essentially in optical terms a (possibly tilted) quarter-slice of a round convex mirror, so you get a lot bigger view outward and don't have to look at the side of the bus.

On my '89 with power mirrors I went to considerable expense to get a flat mirror for the right side, as I hate the convex ones with a passion - they're useless for backing down. Since I now follow the recommended procedure of aiming the mirrors very wide so that you have to seriously move your head left or right to see straight back in either one (requires the procedure in Bentley for widening the aiming range) , I haven't felt the need for the convex spot mirrors.

Yours, David
