>> Every time I think about going on Skyline Drive I always change my mind. <<

You're doing yourself a disservice, Ken.

What Mark & others said- i was an idjut for trying on Saturday. <G> The foliage is so spectacular right now it's almost worth doing over, but tempting as that may be, tonight we'll be sleeping at Otter Creek Campground, MM69 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

If possible, take time off during the week, avoid leafpeeping season, and you'll be fine. It ain't particularly dangerous, neither, although you have to be fairly cautious- we've also encountered folks parked barely off road feeding deer- again around a turn.

Skyline is best for scenery, Blue Ridge Parkway is safer to drive in a spirited manner. Lost count of how many trips since 1974, but have only seen the aftermath of one wreck- our trip north, dude drove it off the road, needed to get the hook to pull it out. I really wasn't surprised to see that it was a Buick.
