Agree with Gary Anderson. I live in Harrisonburg and usually Skyline Drive is pretty nice. Avoid the weekends and holidays (like today) in the Fall and you should be fine. I took some visitors up there during the week days last week and the traffic was light. There were arts and crafts festivals in both Crozet and Waynesboro last Sat & Sun and I am certain that added to the congestion. Next weekend (Oct 15-16) will probably be terrible since that is a weekend projected to be during some of the peak color.
