can i add that lubricating the bushings on the shift linkage does wonders for ease of shifting. I was surprised how it made the shift from 1st to 2nd much easier. That shift seems to be the one that is sensitive to gear oil and linkage lubrication. alistair On 2011-10-20, at 5:56 PM, David Vickery wrote: > Give them a year and they'll be back to touting redline. I used to stay up with all the latest recommendations, then finally decided it really didn't matter much. Course I could be wrong, but I have synthetic the VW shop uses but it isn't redline. > > Tom, I forgot to mention, mine shifted a little funny when I first got it. Kind of stiff coming out of gear. I ran dino oil for the first 500 or so miles. Then switched to synthetic. That made no difference but adjusting the shifter base made it go in and out of gear a lot easier. Took me several tries to find the right adjustment but it is good now. It also helped a lot to get some lubricant down on the moving parts underneath at the transmission and in the middle.. |
