I still think some sort of paper-based product would suit him well
for starters.  Maybe one of the Motocycle Repair for Dummies
Yellow/black books and although off his topic, I can't think of
anything better written on wrenching than John Muir's old VW repair:
Guide for the compleat Idiot".  I think they're still lurking around
ebay somewhere.
