Funny.

It seems there are few Vanagons of any sort in Alabama. Some - but not many. And in my area of the state - they are virtually non-existent. Just north of me in Birmingham once in a blue moon I will see one in passing. Since mine is the only one here - it's noticeable. I have three of these beasties - 2 GL's and a Carat. And when I'm out and about - they get noticed. One has a SA grille and four other big lights up front - total of 8 - and it always draws attention when I'm out and about. But it's the younger generations that are paying attention. There are all the common cars and pick-um-up trucks around here, but the Vanagon stands out. and the younger crowd here spot it a mile away. It's kind of fun. I have hair on the chinny-chin-chin - and none on top - and one day not long ago I pulled on my Bob Marley T, grabbed my English driving hat (flat hat) and headed out the door and up the road. As is my habit at times, I turned the hat around so the short bill was in the back. I'm tooling down the road, windows down, hat on backwards, beard blowing in the breeze, when this carload of young guys and gals pulls up along side - blowing the horn, and giving me the high sign. I give them the big V, and from them a a thumbs up. The guy in the front passenger seat said loudly enough for me to hear - "Very cool, Dude, Very cool!" - gives me the high sign and they pull on off. Very gratifiying that I - and my van - got acknowledged by this younger generation.

All along I get a knock at my door and someone wants to know if I want to sell a van. Well - no! I have specific uses for all three.
