I had my eye on a parked 90 MV for a year before I contacted the original owner and bought it for $2,500. It had the plates " IHODAG ". Kinda weird, but very fitting for a Vanagon-- it's a Wisconsin cultural thing. Google Hodag if you wish. While I couldn't use his plates, I still wanted one as a souvenir, apparently someone else did too and stole the back plate just before I bought it. The PO wanted a keepsake of the Westy and kept the remaining front plate. He was a super nice guy and split the sales tax charge with me saving me $75 and also bought a new battery (that fit perfectly). We sat inside the Multivan at the fold up table and did the paperwork for the "Hodag". He explained some of the helpful Vanagon tips to make ownership easier. By chance, when my wife went to the DMV for new plates, they had a stack of fresh plates that all started with VAG-000 that the clerk said no one wanted. She declined too. When we bought our Winnebago LeSharo with the cursed French Renault drivetrain I tried to get the plates: LHOOQ but was already taken. Chris C |
