I was surprised by the lack of access into many of the Vancouver Island areas for remote camping. The roads are definitely geared to logging operations and not recreation as you travel off the main arteries. Some are gated, others skirt around lakes instead of going to them, and logging trucks wip by at 65 miles per hour on gravel roads. Kind of fun making sure you get out of their way. It took us a little longer finding camp spots than expected, but it was all good. --- On Fri, 10/28/11, Alistair Bell <albell@SHAW.CA> wrote:

Yesterday I tried to make a circle route via logging roads on the north shore of the reservoirs in Sooke BC. Was thwarted by active logging and a strategically placed gate (not on the map). Took a couple of pics. http://shufti.wordpress.com/2011/10/28/trip-curtailed-short-trip-in-sooke/
