was not always the case, 20 - 30 years ago there were less gates. I once drove from Comox down to Sooke pretty well all on logging roads. Many roads are deactivated now by either old timber bridges not being repaired or else the road itself being trenched (ie big trench and berm across road).

But what gets my goat is that dirt bikes and ATVs can still get past gates/trenches.

Oh btw, most, if not all, of the logging on the south island is second growth cut.
