I had a similar problem on another vehicle a long time back (85 Nissan Sentra) which was a plug to the fuse box through a relay that went to the interior fan. Got really hot!! It was burned/melted so bad I just did a bipass around the socket connection with aftermarket wiring and quick connect pinch connectors. Not pretty but did the job...
