We just arrived in Gerrero Negro, staying at a nice little rv park, Malarrimo, across the street from a known good welder. Yup, have a small, hairline crack, on tranny case, just forward of diff, on DS, where diff butts to tranny. It only weeps, but am afraid of the crack spreading and dumping contents, so am stopping frequently and checking tranny level (91 Syncro.) We shall see what happens tomorrow. My question is, what is the material that I'm proposing to have welded? Is it aluminum or some exotic alloy? In Bahia De Los Angeles, I had one of the local mechanics look at it and he tried to JB Weld it, but the weeping impeded all efforts to get this goop to adhere. He then applied bar soap to it and it miraculously stopped leaking. My girlfriend thought that was hilarious, but I wasn't laughing much, knowing the damned thing was going to continue leaking....which it did, a couple of miles out of town. Any ideas welcomed, thank you very much! In the mean time, Fritz has been running like a big champ, without a hiccup. The beaches are beautiful, the people friendly as always, the food deliciosa! Back to the current issue, any advice appreciated. Just what is the material?....and yes, I have emailed German Transaxle for advice. BTW internet has been scarce and unreliable when found...... Gracias, Miguel
