Sounds like 'fun' Ken.
what kind of pump is it ?
a pure stock 1.6 NA injection pump ?
or a later model type of some sort ?
later type injection pumps, in my experience, often do not use the stock 1.0
mm 1.6 NA injection timing spec.
I've seen some that called for .85mm
and some that wanted .95 mm.
that is one easy thing you can do ...check and adjust injection
timing,..that doesn't involve a lot of taking apart.
I'm kinda big on checking injector spray pattern.
I've seen a lot of bad ones.
Fuel addtives too ....straight pump fuel along is not that great..
though that's more about smooth running and longevity of the fuel system
parts and not so much about firing up.
how's the fuel filter ?
diesel engines are much more sensitive to their fuel filters being pretty
decent.
I had an 82 diesel van recently ....kinda had flakes of rust in the fuel
filer.
*any* air leaks in will cause ALL KINDS of starting problems.
if it doesn't have a clear fuel line from filter to IP ........it must.
Injection advance cable working ?
