Most of the time I make vanagon shift linkage..
the early 82 style, and the later ones like yours ..
just by inspection, lubrication, and adjustment, and tightening loose
things.
People tend to think 'part' ..
like it must be 'some parts', and if they just get those parts they can make
their shift linkage perfect again.
however....'installing the parts themselves' is only a small portion of the
actual repair ..
mostly it's about ..
as I said, tightening loose things, ( like where the shift 'lever' with ball
on the end bolts to the splned shaft on the side of your trans .......those
get loose sometimes ) ,.,.
lubricating things that have usually barely ever been lubricated..
and careful adjusting.
Almost any repair should start with careful and thorough inspection ..
THEN get the needed parts. Then do the work.
and about 80 % of the time shift linkage can be made 90 % better with JUST
..
inspection, adjustment, tightening loose things, and careful adjustment.
One part that wears 'pretty nicely' .............since they are seldom
lubricated ..
the base of the shifter..that plastic ball arrangement ...
Other than that, in 2WD 83 and later vans ..
I don't find much that wears at all ..
mainly they are lacking intelligent service, adjustment, and lubrication.
