Steven, I'll save you the trouble of checking the archives, as I find that not always to be simple and straightforward. There is a bit of stuff there, including what I recently learned.

I taped the clamp to the side of the battery. I also tipped the battery a bit away from the front of the battery compartment (raised the forward edge of the battery. I had wrestled with the thing off and on for a day when I tried these two things. Voila, the battery slipped in nicely with the clamp in place. All that remained was to fasten it. What I wish I had done was to put a strap under the battery before I put it in, as the things are a pain to get out, also. But, I didn't
