they come apart nicely. You have 3 .. dive in.

half the time .. if the brushes have decent life left, and the solenoid is good ...... which they usually are, and the bendix gear is OK.. they'll work.

the one thing you can't visually check is how good the armature is. ( but you can have a good old fashioned electrical shop test if for you. )
