This is kind of confusing. Why would bypassing the fitting have anything to do with whether or not fuel exits the tank by gravity? The fitting itself is just a connector, to allow fitting fuel hose between the pump and the fitting, or between the fitting and the injector system, without running one long piece of hose the whole way. Of course, that's what many of us have done, to get rid of the fitting. And if it is above the tank level, fuel flowing out of the tank by gravity would not reach that position, anyway. Fuel flowing out of the tank by gravity would only reach the level of the fuel in the tank. Of course, if there is a leak in the system somewhere that allows fuel to flow from the tank, and that leak is below the fuel level in the tank, then out she goes. But you said the fitting is well above the tank level. ??????????
