I assume you have an AT and the leak is from the Torque converter
seal which conveniently leaks directly onto the front exhaust header
pipe. I think John R. saw "gaskets and rings" in your post and
thought you had your engine rebuilt.
My guess on the cause based on above assumption is inferior torque
converter seal was used or one of the 2 sealing surfaces is worn. I
had a TC "rebuilt" once and it leaked pretty much as soon as it was
installed. the "rebuild" was terrible.
