Likely Jetta/Golf Mark 4. In other words 3th generation Jetta/Golf. Would have been referred to as an A4 because it got confusing with Audi nomenclature.
That is in US/Canada (excluding Cabs):
1974-1984 A1/Mk1 Rabbit/Golf/Jetta
1985-1992 A2/Mk2 (still in prod China)
1993-1998 A3/Mk3
1999-2004 A4/Mk4 (still in prod China)
Etc. Etc. Etc.
It should be noted that the Mk4 Jettas ate rear brake pads much faster than the fronts. This may be due to rear brake bias. Who knows what it would do in the T3 application?
