That state of tune will do a great job of creating that smog producing NOx.
That torque on that size engine can possibly make for a short life. Holes in
pistons, cylinder wall, and rod failures, etc.

With minor mods to the tdi and te old one wire injection pump juiced up too
I should be able to get 200-300 ftlbs torque and keep about 20-25 mpg
pulling probably 30+ not pulling and the simplicity of a one wire pump!

Unless you are very attached to diesel, you can get better yet mpg and lower
cost overall, by considering a Subaru H6 3.0 (minimum 16mpg while pulling a
trailer), and the engine cost/installation is less $$$ as well. The "power"
for the least powerful (2001-2004 engines) is 212HP, 210Lb/ft. I'm getting
17mpg for all of my travels in the intermountain/Rocky Mountain region for
the last 25K miles (since May 2009 conversion).
