Dave--

I the rattle from my table was completely due to the "top" bolt. That is, the lower adjustment on mine does not rattle. The rattle came from where the leg meets the table. So I cut a piece of flat gavalized metal from the hardware and drilled it to create a bracket that is held in place by a hole in the bracket and has a little "tongue" that flips over the top of the leg and dips inside the leg deep enough to make contact with the tightening bolt when the bolt is place.

This causes the bolt to push against the tongue or maybe better to call it a shim and the shim pushes against the reciever post that comes out of the bottom of the table top. Seems to lock it all in place.

I'll attach pics here, but I think Gerry will strip the pics. I'll cc you and maybe the pics will stay attached.

This has worked for me for years with no rattle. But again my only problem was a rattle at the top where the leg meets the table.

The magnet sounds like a great idea. But for me, right now, it is not needed.
