Yah, go for it. Springs are pretty cheap and they aren't that difficult to swap. See if it works. I still have about a dozen Hyperco springs from my race car in various rates. I swapped em all the time, depending on tracks and tires and other variables... If it handles worse, change back. If it's better, maybe go one rate further. You experiment with stuff like suspension adjustments...there isn't really a 'right way/wrong way' ...too complex...especially for something like a Vanagon that will encounter plenty of diverse driving surfaces and various loads and speeds..
