On this Florida trip I have regular gas as low as $3.179 and Diesel as high as $4.059. I really feel bad for folks that use fuel oil to heat their homes.

Just isn't right.

I definitely remember 19 cents a gallon. My buddies and I commuted from the Oak Cliff area of Dallas (SW side of town) to University of Texas at Arlington (about 18 miles each way). I didn't have a car myself, but used my mother's 1958 Rambler Classic. That car got about 19 miles per gallon on its 6 cylinder engine, fantastic for the time (mid-sixties). Gas ranged in price from 18.9 per gallon at non-branded outlets with minimal services (though there were no self-serve places in Texas at the time) to about 28 cents per gallon at full-service outlets like "Humble," Texaco," and "Gulf." All of those have succumbed to merger or buy out now, though the Texaco brand name is still used in places because of past loyalties. Humble advertised "Put a tiger in your tank."

Back then, it was not uncommon for teenagers to pull up to a gas pump, and ask for "a dollar's worth." Nowadays, that would buy 1/4 or 1/3 of a gallon, but no full service place would dispense it, I imagine. Then, at the local Humble station that I used when I had a date (silliness prevails among teenagers everywhere at all times) and waited until I'd picked up my girl to put the gas in, it got the windows and headlights washed, and the tires and oil checked. Every time, no matter the amount of gas purchased.
