Well Scott, a lot of things "doesn't make any sense to me" either. But I did this when I was replacing all the hoses on the van because it was 20 years old and I had all the repair records from its two previous owners and no hoses had ever been replaced. So I hope that makes sense. I did not have to cut the hoses to insert straight connectors.
