Grid is fine, was a broken wire at the hatch rubber boot section. I had repaired what I thought was the only break, but it turned out there was another break, hidden in the van body.

I have one of those little jars of conductive paint in my messy parts collection. I Last used it on the grid of my '72 westy, way back in '89. The stuff does work, tedious and tricky painting though.

As in: ohmeter probes touched to the grid a few mm apart show conductivity, but any farther apart than that and no current passes. Since you said "no power AT the grid" it sounds like a different problem though, but if you meant "no power ACROSS the grid" maybe we have the same problem. > > Graham > > On 2011-12-03, at 4:29 PM, Automatic digest processor wrote: > >> From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of >> Alistair Bell >> Sent: Friday, December 02, 2011 4:15 PM >> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM >> Subject: rear defogger wiring question >> >> I'm trying to track down electrical fault in rear defogger, '86 syncro ( >> early prod. before the vin change as noted in bentley).
