Traditionally, Fridays were supposed to for non-technical but still Vanagon related chatter. For example: Vanagon sightings, Vanagon jokes, etc. More recently, it was agreed among mods that in order to preserve and encourage more community interaction, a more open format for Fridays should be tolerated as long as the posting did not meet any objections. 

There are a few of points that should be noted:

1) Moderator comments are frequently not an individual decision but rather a result of consultation among mods. 

2) Mods post for each other depending on each others access to the Internet. In other words, the mod comment you are reading may not be coming from the person posting it.

3) Someone described described the List as a "benevolent dictatorship". Besides that, it is also similar to a representative democracy in that we can't all be moderators. Mod selection was not from a community vote but an assignment by the outgoing mod which is often influenced by the opinion of the community.
