I helped a friend do this with a 1.8 gas motor in October. Using the '83 carrier bars, the WBX transmission with diesel bellhousing is a bolt-in. I also have this setup in my '82 diesel. With the inline crankshaft, you need to shorten the transmission input shaft or source the correct replacement. Mine is shortened by abount 12mm. Don't forget the pilot bearing, which is not used in the transverse installation.
