83 diesel vanagon carrier bars perfectly match the waterboxer transmission fore-aft location. it will all bolt right up.

if interested why/how ..... that is because the waterboxer trans starting in 83 sits two inches further aft than it really needs to.. That trans fore-aft location was chosen so automatics can have an oil cooler/heat exchanger at the front of the trans and still have the same engine fore-aft waterboxer engine fore-aft location for manual trans or auto.
