Blocking off the hoses is much better than joining them. when you join them you short circuit the front heater a little.

the 'real' way is to go underneath and remove the 'T's' and replace them with straight hose connectors.

the hoses are 5/8ths where they go on the heater core .. but smaller than that right away .. one of vw's hoses that's one size on one end, and another on the other end.
