Suggest drill and tap 8-32 or better 10-24 in the middle of the vent, then use margarine tub secured with stainless steel round- or pan-head machine screw and flat washer. If you want to work it without tools, use brass or bronze round-head screw instead, cut down a washer and soft-solder or braze it into the screwdriver slot. Or you may find a small knob with brass insert that you can attach to a cut-off brass screw. In that case you're likely looking at 1/4-20 for the hole. Drill a wooden block or dowel section as a spacer between tub and vent so you can snug the screw down without injuring the tub.

Provide a stub screw if necessary to plug the hole when the fridge is in use.

Same procedure for the regulation cover, probably sans spacer - but they perish in the sun, so the tubs are cheaper over time.

Yours, David
