Alistair, thanks for finding this and sharing. Of course, this spread could have come from any of a number of U.S. Highways of the time, evidently 1948. Evokes some memories. For example we had and used the window evaporative device that mounted on the passenger side window pictured to cool the interior of the car. In fact, my brother put in ice. We also had the water bag shown hanging from the rear of one vehicle. The fabric was permeable, and so evaporation cooled the water inside. How many folks have actually seen either of these items of an earlier technology?
