I just replace the AFM on my '80 Westy . I'd been having serious
problems with the engine suddenly refusing to do anything but idle, and
it would die when I tried to accelerate. I happened to have an AFM from
a previous van, so I tried the swap and my problem did go away.
Coincidence? Perhaps. Now it runs much better: smoother idle and
great acceleration, but a little weak at low rpm with a just a touch of
acceleration.
Funny how it just feels like a different engine somehow. I think gas
mileage may be better, too. Of course, this is on the air-cooled engine
so not really the same deal, I guess.
