Subject: Jetta Engine Swap: Cat Position? PICS.
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

Hi all.

The primary pipes I originally made finally died. (no mystery) Got a slightly used '02 - '03 Jetta downpipe for $50. Image:

Part or all of elbow removed, it should fit fairly easily to old work. Mock up image: http://tinyurl.com/d6f5oc5

Downpipe was a "warranty" return. Buyer claimed cat caused emissions testing fail. He may have been wrong. Cat element *looks* clear. So.....

Looking at LH end of cat, image: http://tinyurl.com/bm3pq3m  ) is it shaped this way to accommodate shape of vehicle it was originally intended for? If not, if I turn this cat, will the reversed flow, and this different shape, cause the cat to not operate properly?

And.....

If I mount this cat in place of this flex bushing: http://tinyurl.com/cxcbvzs and install a new flex bushing post cat pre 90Ëš turn to muffler or inline with muffler, will the cat then be allowed to vibrate freely between the two new flex bushings causing the bushing(s) to fail prematurely?

TIA for this Friday indulgence,

Neil.
