I have a van fitted with alloys and the bigger tires from the factory. 215/70-14 tires definitely don't fit the spare tire carrier. Well it will go in ... but when you get them out a few months or years later they will have long indentations on them rendering them useless. I just threw out a brand new unused spare tire for this reason. I now have the General Altimax tires and they are great apart from their propensity to pick up every bit of gravel in the treads.

What year and original tire fitment? There are two different tire carrier set ups from the factory. The clam shell and bars from the 205/70 will take that tire with little effort. A longer front bolt and dropping the rear hinges will work. Be sure the tire does not rub on the steering shaft. Do note the load index on this size tire is only 95. A 215/70-14 would be a 96 and the General Altimax 205/70-14XL is 98.
