... another specialist shop to avoid is Precision GT on Long Island. bought my Van there from broke PO as a nonrunner. pages of work- mad, crazy money. picked 3 dead spiders out of the distributor. had a delightful shake down cruise to Wilmington VT and back [app. 130 mi.] ... mike, still drivin' happy in a $600 `85 GL          =(:D) ________________________________ From: J Stewart <fonman4277@COMCAST.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Friday, December 30, 2011 9:36 AM Subject: One More Thing About Paul's In Annandale, Va... I know some folks who took their Vanagon there and over a period of time spent $4,500.00, and were then told "You know, what you really need is a new engine" WOW, couldn't have figured that out $4,500.00 ago? They sold it. While we're on local VA/MD/DC shops, my current '85 was serviced by a well known VW shop in Maryland, the PO gave me a folder full of receipts, the magic number being $800.00- a lot of the receipts were for that amount. He sold it because he could no longer afford to keep it. All this money and it ran like crap. I got it home to find it was running on 3 cylinders!! One of the plug wires fell apart in my hand-all this money and these VW "experts" couldn't find that? It's no wonder I'm a bit wary of shops. Jeff Stewart
