I don't think Jeff meant he was going to put a squealer back in...but I've fixed up four or five blower motors and all worked for years with no problems. All had little wear on brushes and commutators but were seized or almost. I would be very hesitant to re-use a motor whose bearings were loose enough to chatter in this application (though I've kept sanders, saws, computer fans and such going for years with frequent oiling - each use in the case of power tools).

Repair involved removing the motor from the housing, cleanup with multiple changes of Marvel Mystery Oil and bench running, oiling of bearings and bearing felts with machine oil, bench running for 2-3 days continuous and then replacement into the housing.

R&R in the housing is thoughtful work because you can't exert much pressure between shaft and motor case without wrecking a bearing or moving the armature on the shaft (and if you drop the motor when it falls out of the housing as you tap the shaft off the blower wheel it may injure itself).

Yrs, d
