Just FYI--have owned my 85 Vanagon for 23 years. Only hear the fuel pump buzz softly twice right before I crank the ignition switch. Never hear anything more. Replaced the fuel pump (Bosch from BusDepot) just because it was 27 years old, nothing wrong, just didn't want a failure 800 miles from home, preventive maintenance; same thing...just two buzzes when turned on, then nothing after igniting engine up. Replaced filter at same time as pump just to keep things clean. So all this noise you folks have is a mystery to me. Will add...mine is a Southern California van, always garaged. Maybe the answer is....rust. Condensation from outdoor storage? And likewise, in the gas station tanks where you fill up? What Craig said. Only thing I haven't done is drop the gas tank to see if there is crud blocking the exit to the line which would cause cavitation. Bubbles in the fuel line, as it were. I have given up and accepted the noise. I turn the stereo up louder. I have a spare fuel pump with me and a few clamps.
